GUIDED TOURS

Guided tours are on Wednesday and friday with previous reservation. 

  Morning 12:00 a.m.: It starts with a guided tour around our facilities and operations (farm animals, cow farm, and milking chamber). Next, you will be able to watch a live demonstration of how we make our cheese. To conclude the visit you will be offered a complete sampling and tasting experience of all our products typical of Menorca : 4 types of cheese, sobrassada, carnixulla, home made preserves from our orchard, carquiñolis, bread, wine and water.

A DAY AT SUBAIDA

Our farm is located on Minorca in the municipality of Es Mercadal. It is an agricultural plot with many years of history. If you would like to come and visit us, we would be delighted to give you a guided tour. You can meet the animals, admire the surrounding nature and, of course, taste them.

The house
1. THE HOUSE.
Subaida has been in the Montañés family, founders of the well-known cheese brand El Caserío, since 1840. Our family has passed down our tradition of cheese-making unchanged for three generations. The Georgian-style house is presently inhabited, so only the exterior may be toured.
Environment
2. THE SURROUNDINGS
With an area of 865 acres Subaida contains forests of pines and oaks. We also have 124 acres reserved for grain farming (corn in the summer and hay in the winter), which we use to feed our livestock. We are committed to the environment, and our sowing and irrigation systems are sustainable.

3.THE THRESHING FLOOR
Subaida also has a threshing floor. It is a paved surface in the shape of a circle, and in the past we used it for threshing grain.

4 . THE SHOP AND THE TASTING AREA.
In the old days, we made wine at Subaida. That is why we have century-old cellars, which we now use for storing our cheeses. Our particular aging technique gives our cheeses a distinctive Minorcan flavor.
The room that leads into the cellars is currentl y used for the shop and tasting area, and it is a perfect space for holding events.

5. THE CHEESE FACTORY
In our cheese factory, we will show you how to make cheese just like we do at Subaida: using artisan methods and the techniques we learned from our ancestors.
The calves
6. THE CALVES
During your visit to Subaida, you will be able to meet our calves. You will see that we treat them with special care; after all, they are baby cows. That’s why they live in individual stalls and have their own personalized diets.
The milking chamber
7. THE MILKING CHAMBER
In the milking chamber we obtain the precious milk that will be turned into delicious cheese. We milk our cows twice per day, and we take no more than 30 liters per day from each cow. During your visit, you will be able to see how we do it.

8 . THE COW FARM
Our “cow hotel” is where we care for and tend to our cows. It is a place where they can eat and drink as they please, and even sleep in a comfortable bed.
